It is no secret that gaming laptops packing the latest RTX 40 GPUs cost quite a bit. For instance, at the time of writing, the cheapest gaming notebook on Newegg rocking the RTX 4060 laptop GPU costs US$1,500. So, if you are looking for a decently powerful machine, laptops with the RTX 30 “Ampere” GPUs are the way to go, since they are cheaper and can be found at discounts. To that end, the Acer Nitro 5 is now enjoying a 23% discount on the US$1,299.99 list price at Best Buy bringing the final price down to US$999.99 (slickdeals).
The Acer Nitro 5 on sale is rocking an 8-core Ryzen 7 6800H CPU, RTX 3070 Ti GPU, 16 GB of DDR5 memory, 1 TB PCIe SSD, and a 14-inch 1440p display. Per our review of the Acer Nitro 5 with the Core i7-12700H, the RTX 3070 Ti proved to be an excellent performer as the GPU comfortably pushed the tested games at QHD resolution and with High to Maximum settings.
Making the gaming experience even better was the QHD display with 100% sRGB, 97% DCI-P3, and 85% AdobeRGB coverage. The measured peak brightness and contrast levels also came out acceptable at more than 300 nits and 1,145 respectively.
Rounding the Acer Nitro 5 off was a satisfactory keyboard that has a 4-zone RGB backlight, an accurate trackpad, and plenty of room for future upgrades. All in all, we gave the laptop a “good” rating of 84%.
In short, the Acer Nitro 5 for US$1000 is well worth a look for buyers who want excellent FHD/QHD gaming performance on a budget.
