The 15-hour flights are scheduled to leave YVR at 8:50 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with the red-eye return flights leaving the United Arab Emirates capital on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays starting Oct. 30.

The flights would offer the only non-stop service between YVR and Dubai, said Air Canada in a news release on Thursday.

“We are extremely pleased to add the only non-stop service linking Vancouver and Dubai, two iconic and vibrant global destinations,” said Mark Galardo, Air Canada’s senior vice-president for network planning and revenue management.

“In cooperation with our codeshare and frequent flyer partner Emirates, our Vancouver-Dubai flights will connect to a multitude of destinations across the Middle East, Indian subcontinent and East Africa in Dubai, providing customers with choice and convenience while travelling for business or visiting friends and family.”

Tickets for the flights are available for sale. An online search shows tickets in October and early November going for around $1,330 in economy.

Air Canada already offers daily non-stop flights between Toronto and Dubai.

B.C.’s business community welcomed Air Canada’s announcement of its YVR-Dubai route.

“Connecting Vancouver directly with more destinations brings us closer, drives innovation, and encourages growth in our interconnected world,” said Bridgitte Anderson, president and CEO of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade.

“As such, the investment by Air Canada in this new route will certainly contribute positively to our region.”

Walt Judas, president and CEO of the Tourism Industry Association of B.C., said the new route would connect B.C. with a “significant market,” noting that the UAE ranks fifth internationally in terms of expenditures on travel and tourism.

The route is Air Canada’s latest addition as it works to expand international services in response to increasing demand for international travel and as COVID-19 border measures ease.

Starting June 1, the airline plans to launch non-stop flights between Vancouver and Washington D.C., with five roundtrip flights a week scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Last year, Air Canada launched new non-stop services to Austin, Tex., Houston, Tex., Halifax, and Bangkok, Thailand.

It has also resumed service on several major international routes that were previously suspended due to the pandemic, including flights to and from Tokyo, Japan, and Auckland, New Zealand.
