ISLAMABAD:

Special Representative to Prime Minister on Religious Harmony and the Pakistani Diaspora in Middle East and Islamic Countries, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, on Monday reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause.

During a press conference in Islamabad, Ashrafi highlighted that Pakistan’s position on the Gaza issue has been unequivocal since October 7, with a firm commitment to supporting Palestinians in their just cause.

He expressed concern about certain entities attempting to disturb Pakistan’s peace through disinformation, citing the proliferation of fake social media accounts from India fuelling religious disharmony and political instability.

Ashrafi emphasised that Pakistan has been at the forefront of aiding Palestine, with contributions from the government, army, and the people.

He underscored the significance of the Palestine issue in high-level meetings, including the Corps Commander Conference and the summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Ashrafi mentioned key diplomatic engagements, such as meetings between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

He noted that Pakistan remains in constant communication with various Islamic countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iran, and Egypt, to address the Palestine issue peacefully.

Highlighting the interconnectedness of the Palestine and Kashmir issues within the Islamic Ummah, Ashrafi asserted that deviating from these concerns is not a viable option. He expressed gratitude to the Saudi foreign minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, for his efforts in convening Arab and Muslim ministers to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

Addressing the matter of the return of illegal Afghan migrants, Ashrafi defended Pakistan’s right to repatriate foreigners residing unlawfully within its borders. He expressed desire for peaceful relations between Islamabad and Kabul, emphasising the responsibility of neighbours to care for each other.

Ashrafi also mentioned positive developments, including an OIC delegation’s visit to China from Saudi Arabia, indicating improvement. He anticipated positive outcomes from decisions made by Muslim leaders during the OIC special summit in Riyadh.

Responding to queries, Ashrafi affirmed that no illegal immigrant would be permitted to remain in the country. He clarified that religious scholars are in full agreement with the army chief regarding the repatriation of illegal Afghan immigrants.

During a comprehensive meeting with the army chief, Ashrafi revealed that the religious scholars from various schools of thought pledged complete cooperation and support to actively counter any negative propaganda against national interests. They also reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and tranquillity through all available means in the country.
