New information has surfaced regarding the Tuesday night incident at the University of Karachi, where armed suspects confronted two female students. Contrary to initial concerns of harassment or kidnapping, it appears to be a case of attempted snatching.
According to Abdul Sattar Magsi of the Mubina Town police station, an investigation revealed that six to seven female students were waiting for transportation at a bus stop outside the university’s main gate. Among them were the two affected students, who are the daughters of Sub-Inspector Asif Qamar from the Excise Department and attend evening classes in the Actuarial Sciences Department at KU.
Two suspects on a motorcycle approached the students and attempted to rob them at gunpoint. However, when other citizens gathered in response to the commotion, the armed suspects fled the scene.
The father of the two students in an application to the police, stated that the suspects tried to snatch their laptops and mobile phones. Fortunately, the girls managed to escape and sought refuge at a marriage hall across the road.
