The district administration has fulfilled demands for a separate respectable transport bus service for women and female students by inaugurating the “Pink Bus Service” in the City of Saints on Friday.
Federal Woman Ombudsman Fauzia Waqar and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Umar Jahangir inaugurated the service in a ceremony held at Women’s University. Addressing the ceremony, Fauzia Waqar said it was the state’s responsibility to give independence and safety to women and students in schools and offices.
She said with the inauguration of the Pink Bus Service, girl students and women would feel independent and safe. She lauded the district administration for the initiative.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Omer Jehangir said that initially, the buses have been loaned from VIDA and Metro Bus Service and the buses would run along two routes after educational institutions reopen from August 21.
One of the services will operate from Chowk Kumharnwala to Zakaria University at 7:30am and from Bahauddin Zakaria University to Chowk Kahmarnwala at 1:30pm. The DC added that the buses would use the route from Chongi 9 to Nadirabad Gate at 7:40am and from Naderabad Gate to Chongi No. 9 at 5:10pm daily.
