The British playwright Tom Stoppard triumphed at the Tony Awards with the play ‘Leopoldstadt’, which premiered in London in 2020.
‘Leopoldstadt’ tells the story of the Merz Jewish family grappling with the growing anti-Semitism in the Austrian capital which will lead to the Holocaust.
The Tony Awards are New York’s theater industry’s equivalent to the Emmy Awards for television, the Grammy Awards for music, and the Academy Awards (Oscars) for motion picture.
An artist who wins all four awards is awarded the title of EGOT.
