Chairman PCB’s Interim Management Committee Zaka Ashraf resigned

LAHORE (Afaq Dhariwal) Zaka Ashraf announced on Friday that he had decided to tender his resignation as chairman and member of the PCB management committee to caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar.

He made the announcement after chairing the fourth meeting of the MC at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. He thanked members of the MC, the PCB management, and staff for their support during this tenure. Members of the committee expressed their gratitude to the chairman MC for his leadership.

In his remarks, Mr Ashraf thanked the prime minister for the confidence and trust reposed by him and extended his best wishes and prayers for the betterment of Pakistan and Pakistan cricket.

The meeting was attended by the ten members of the committee. One member, Khurram Karim Somroo joined the meeting online while the remaining nine members – Kalim Ullah Khan, Ashfaq Akhtar, Muhammad Mussadiq Islam, Azmat Pervez, Zaheer Abbas, Khawaja Nadeem, Mustafa Ramday, ASC, Zulfiqar Malik and Zaka Ashraf (chair) – were present in person.

Members were briefed on PCB affairs and financial matters. The CFO presented periodic Management Accounts and financial projections for the remaining current fiscal year.

Zaka Ashraf provided a summary of the milestones achieved during the tenure of the current MC which was constituted in the first week of July.

On Dec 20, 2022, Ramiz Raja was the PCB chairman. He was removed by then prime minister and PCB patron Shehbaz Sharif, who had named an 11-member IMC headed by Najam Sethi, which worked till June 20, 2023. Subsequently, another interim committee, a 10-member body, was formed on July 5, 2023 with Ashraf — a Pakistan People’s Party leader — as its chairman.

In November, the Ministry of Inter-provincial Coordination had given a three-month extension to the Ashraf-led body. Ashraf said Pakistan hosted Asia Cup after 15 years during his tenure. He highlighted that up to 80 women’s domestic contracts were offered for the first time.

“MoU executed with Middlesex County Cricket Club (MCCC) for collaboration on multiple projects for cricket development,” he said.
