LAHORE:
Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman emphasised the critical nature of accurate court reporting during a meeting with the newly-elected cabinet of the Courts Journalist Association (CJA) at the Governor House on Thursday.
Rehman conveyed that court reporting demands impeccable precision, leaving no room for errors. “Court reporting is the most sensitive form of journalism that has no room for even a single mistake,” he said.
Led by President Muhammad Ashfaq, the CJA delegation, including Senior Vice President Rana Yasif and Secretary Muhammad Haroon, engaged in a dialogue with the governor regarding the challenges faced by journalists while covering court proceedings. Distinguished figures such as Senior Columnist Salman Ghani and Senior Vice President of the Press Club Shadab Riaz were also in attendance.
Governor Rehman listened to the journalists’ concerns and assured swift resolution of their issues. Responding to President Ashfaq’s request, the governor pledged to provide laptops to court reporters and assured that he would talk to the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi himself to facilitate this provision.
Recognising the exceptional demands of court reporting, the governor acknowledged the necessity for reporters to have access to laptops, enhancing their ability to cover the intricacies of legal proceedings. Rehman underscored the importance of unity for national progress and voiced his commitment to a stronger and more prosperous Pakistan.
Rehman criticised the previous political regime for promoting negativity, vengeful politics, and acts of desecration against historical sites. In contrast, he lauded the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for prioritising the nation’s well-being over political gain, thus safeguarding the state.
Highlighting the PML-N’s efforts to improve various sectors for the welfare of the masses, he acknowledged the persistence of challenges. He pledged unwavering dedication to surmount these challenges through astute decision-making and diligent efforts.
“There are still some problems which we will leave no stone unturned to eliminate with the wisdom and hard work,” he added.
Rehman commended former prime minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif’s contribution in redirecting the country towards stability, averting financial default.
CJA’s Finance Secretary Rana Bilal, Information Secretary Suleman Awan, Vice President District Courts Numan Noor, Secretary Digital Media Nadeem Khalid and other senior journalists including Gull Chaman Shah, Habib Chohan, Sibtain Ali, Shakir Awan, Muhammad Waqas, and Muhammad Arshad were present on the occasion.
