The third consultative meeting between Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and the Leader of the Opposition in Sindh Assembly, Rana Ansar finally yielded results as both agreed to nominate Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar, a former Supreme Court judge, as the caretaker chief minister of the province.
The meeting took place in Karachi on Monday during which several names came under consideration, a statement issued by the CM House read.
Both Shah and Ansar remained engaged in consultative meetings from August 12 to 14 under the Article 224(1A) of the Constitution to reach a consensus for the appointment of the caretaker chief minister in the province.
Following three days of detailed consultations, the statement said that the chief minister and opposition leader reached an agreement on the name of Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar. A summary has been moved to Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori for Baqarโs formal nomination.
A Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) spokesperson said that party Rabitta Committee has also approved Baqarโs nomination for caretaker CM after consulting with Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA).
Who is Justice Baqar?
Justice Maqbool Baqar, a former judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and a former Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, stands out as a highly respected jurist within the country.
His unwavering commitment to the cause of justice and equity will undoubtedly be held in the highest esteem.
Baqar was born on April 5, 1957, and obtained his LLB from Karachi University. He initiated his legal practice in May 1981 in the port city.
He ascended to the position of Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court on September 20, 2013, and subsequently became a judge of the Supreme Court on February 17, 2015.
