Katie Byrnes has been immersed in the golf world since birth. Her father played in college and her family lived near a golf course in Scottsdale, so she spent a lot of time on the greens. While playing for Desert Mountain High School, Byrnes noticed that women’s golf apparel wasn’t very fashionable or practical for everyday wear. Playing socially as an adult, she noticed that other women had similar complaints. “I wanted something I could feel comfortable in and confident in that didn’t totally scream ‘golf,’” Byrnes says. Her brand, Jaybirdwas born from this desire. The line features tops, bottoms and dresses inspired by retro sportswear and her own personal style. Everything fits typical club dress codes, but can easily be worn off-course. The fabrics are high quality, eco-certified and include UV protection. “I started as a golfer, not a designer,” Byrnes says. “I wanted the look, but also wanted the function.”
