The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Saturday stated that gender equality is significantly important for a world without hunger, adding accessing education will increase food security for women and girls.
The UN Chief on Saturday in a tweet said to eradicate hunger from the world, gender equality is a critical prerequisite that must be met.
Without naming a specific country or region, Guterres said, when women and girls have access to resources and education, they will not only play a decisive role in providing food security for themselves but also for their families and community.
This comes as Khaama Press’ previous survey indicates that women’s lives have undergone a major economic, social and psychological transformation after the Islamic Emirate seized power in August 2021.
As per the existing reports, besides being barred from social engagement and public life, more than 40% of women cannot earn an income for their families compared to that of the previous years.
According to the World Food Program report, Afghanistan is among the countries facing acute food insecurity, where some nine million people are plagued with serious economic crises and famine.
Meanwhile, UN OCHA has warned of an increase in malnutrition and acute hunger in Afghanistan, stressing that roughly 28 million people need humanitarian aid in 2023.
Following the bans on Afghan female employees working for aid organizations and their access to education, women have been the victims of gender inequality, which resulted in a rise in poverty and hunger in the country.
