PESHAWAR:

‘Heritage by night’ has been launched in Peshawar which is the start of night tourism in the district and a joint venture between the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, ‘Tour Da Pekhawar’ and the Pakistan Army. The initiative is aimed at showcasing Peshawar’s untapped potential and presenting a true reflection of its identity, both nationally and internationally.

At least 50 people, including families from Peshawar and other cities in Pakistan, attended the night tourism event during which they explored Peshawar’s rich history, culture and heritage. Tourists visited the Peshawar Museum, the Qissa Khawani Bazaar and the Sethi House to witness the city’s rich heritage and enjoyed the sights they took in throughout the tour.

The World Bank-assisted KITE Project DoT is contributing towards the restoration of museums and heritage assets and supporting the ‘Heritage By Night’ venture which includes the beautiful illumination of the Peshawar Museum and the city’s Gor Khatri and Sethi House.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Director of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Directorate of Archaeology and Museums Dr. Abdul Samad said night tourism was being introduced as a landmark move aimed at showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Peshawar. It would, he said, offer a unique opportunity for visitors to experience the allure of Peshawar’s historical sites after sunset.
