The Highlands and Islands Climate Hub is to welcome an award winning author to deliver an online event about the fashion industry’s impact on people and the environment.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the worst ever industrial incident to hit the garment industry when the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh collapsed and killed over a thousand people.

The day before the collapse, large structural cracks were discovered in the building and businesses on the lower floors closed immediately.

However thousands of garment workers were ordered to continue working and faced the unthinkable the very next day.

The tragedy brought worldwide attention to dangerous workplaces and sparked a huge uprising in action to improve the working environments of garment workers across the world.

Part of this action was the creation of Fashion Revolution which has become the world’s largest fashion activism movement.

Author Tansy Hoskins will discuss this and more on Wednesday from 7pm in the online event open to all.

More details about the Highlands and Islands Climate Hub and how to join in the talk can be found at www.hiclimatehub.co.uk
