India resorts to unprovoked firing along Working Boundary

In a swift and decisive response, Pakistani security forces on Thursday reacted to unprovoked firing from Indian forces along the Working Boundary in Zafarwal sector of Sialkot.

This has been the second time that Indian forces have resorted to violating the existing ceasefire terms along the Line of Control (LoC) and Working Boundary jointly agreed by both Islamabd and New Delhi in February 2021.

The situation escalated when Indian forces attempted to breach the Pakistani border, employing quadcopter drones in an apparent effort to surveillance the activities of security personnel stationed along the Working Boundary.

Pakistan’s security forces effectively thwarted the Indian incursion, prompting the Indian side to resort to unprovoked firing at Pakistani check posts.

In a timely and resolute countermeasure, Pakistan responded firmly to the unwarranted aggression from the Indian forces.

Earlier in August, Indian Army resorted to unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Nikial Sector, targeting innocent civilians which resulted in the martyrdom of a 60-year-old man, the military said.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the deceased, identified as Ghias, was a resident of Oli village in Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s Koti district. The incident also left three women, who were cutting grass in the fields, traumatised.

Pakistan and India in February 2021 announced that they had agreed to observe a ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) and all other sectors.

The announcement was made simultaneously by both Islamabad and New Delhi after a telephonic conversation between senior military officials of the two countries.

The rare joint statement came against the backdrop of worsening relations between the two countries since the Pulwama incident in February 2019.
