JUI-F’s Hafiz Hamdullah among seven injured in Mastung blast

QUETTA:

At least seven people, including Jamiat Ulema-a-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) leader Hafiz Hamdullah, were injured in a bomb attack in Balochistan’s Mastung district on Thursday.

The attack took place on Mastung Road as the JUI-F leader was passing through the area.

Hamdullah was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, said a Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) spokesperson.

He was shifted to Quetta after receiving first aid in a Mastung hospital. JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghauri said the party leader was injured “but not critically”. Ghauri also condemned the attack.

JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, while condemning the attack, said the authorities should track down and arrest the perpetrators of the attack.

The province’s interim home minister, Zubair Jamali, also condemned the bomb attack and directed authorities to submit a report in this regard. He directed authorities to help those injured in the attack and also prayed for their swift recovery.

PPP Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned the attack. “Terrorists and facilitators involved in terrorism should be brought under the law,” he said.

The party and its leadership have come under attack on previous occasions. Earlier in July, at least 63 people were killed and more than 100 injured when a suicide bomber set off explosives at the party’s workers convention in the Bajaur district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The blast occurred in Khar tehsil of the district, a town bordering Afghanistan. According to eyewitnesses, hundreds of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) workers along with the local leader were present at the convention when the suicide blast ripped through it.

The Islamic State-Khorasan claimed the deadly suicide bombing.
