Lavish lives of the Boohoo billionaires: The family began with a market stall and now run an empire

The rise of the Boohoo fashion empire is one of the most extraordinary British success stories of recent times.

Starting life as a humble market stall in Manchester, the company owned by the Kamani family reached a value of well over £5 billion at its peak.

This success was down to the brand’s ability to quickly replicate fashion styles, then offer them to consumers at minimal prices, with items like bodycon dresses retailing at as little as £3.

While the company has come in for criticism because of the business and sustainability practices involved in producing fashion at this speed and bulk, at low cost, it has remained popular with many.

As a result, by 2017 the company had seen extraordinary growth, with stellar profits netting the Kamani family a fortune of more than £1 billion. And the billionaire family behind the brand has become almost as well known as the clothing, thanks to their lavish lifestyles, and appearances at high end events.

Among the Kamani’s lavish exploits was Umar’s 2021 proposal to Nada Adelle (pictured), which included a $21 million ring

While father Mahmud is more reserved, the rest of the Kamani family – mother Aisha, and sons Umar, Adam and Samir – often share snaps online of their exciting activities, showcasing their expensive taste.

Mahmud Kamani launched Boohoo in 2006, after he started out running a Manchester market stall selling fashion items. The Boohoo group now owns a portfolio of brands including Nasty Gal, Coast, Wallis, Dorothy Perkins, and Debenhams.

And youngest son Samir works as the CEO of boohoo and boohooMAN, he was just a teenager when the brand launched.

In 2006 the couple’s son Umar Kamani started working for the family business as a manager, while attending theatre school. He went on to study international business at Manchester Metropolitan University.

In 2012 he and his brother Adam co-funded PrettyLittleThing after witnessing the phenomenal success of Boohoo, and reported a turnover of £374million in 2018. By 2022, the company is forecast to be worth around £2.1billion.

The brand opened a flagship store in LA in 2016, and Kylie Jenner attended the launch party. After the reality star wore one of the brand’s dresses in 2016, overall sales increased by 400 per cent.

The company now enjoys a host of celebrity endorsements including Khloe Kardahsian, Hayley Bieber, Little Mix, Nicole Scherzinger and Paris Hilton, as well as financial success.

Adam left in 2017 to pursue a property startup, and Umar announced recently he would be stepping down as CEO of the brand, after selling his 34 per cent stake to Boohoo.

During his decade as director and CEO, Umar has not only made PLT appeal to the masses but also his celebrity pals, whose popularity has elevated the brand to desirable effect.

Love Island viewers now associate the most successful Islanders with securing partnership deals with PLT following Molly-Mae’s ongoing relationship with the business.

Thanks to the success of their fashion empire, the family have become famous in their own right, with the younger members garnering large followings on social media with fans keen to see what they have been up to.

Many enjoy seeing the trappings of the Kamani’s wealth, like Umar’s fleet of luxury vehicles, including Lamborghinis and Hummers, or Aisha’s luxury shopping trips to stores like Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Fendi.

Among some of their most extravagant exploits, was Umar’s 2021 engagement to his model partner Nada Adelle.

Once named Britain’s eighth most eligible bachelor by society bible Tatler, Umar popped the question in the most lavish of settings – the Monte Carlo Opera House.

He filled the historic theatre with 10,000 white roses, and dozens of candles while 25 musicians played Beauty and the Beast as Nadia entered.

Wearing a $1 diamond encrusted watch, he then popped the question offering his partner her own pricey sparkler, a stunning 21 carat ring worth a cool $2 million.

And his birthday last year was no less exciting, with stars including Snoop Dogg, Christina Milian and Chris Brown taking to the stage to perform at the LA bash.

Meanwhile youngest brother Samir often shares the luxuries he enjoys with his followers, posting snaps that showcase a life full of parities in Capri, dinners in Dubaiand idyllic trips to the Maldives.

Like the rest of his family, Samir is clearly a jetsetter and has also posted photos of lavish trips to Egypt, where he posed in front of the pyramids of Giza.
