LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court (LHC) has granted time to the counsels of the Punjab government to help arrange a meeting between Hassaan Khan Niazi, PTI chief Imran Khan’s nephew, and his family.
LHC Justice Sultan Tanvir Ahmad on Saturday issued an interim order on a petition filed by Hassaan’s father, Hafeezullah Khan Niazi. Hafeezullah had sought his son’s recovery as well as an inquiry against those responsible for his “illegal” detention.
The court also summoned Hafeezullah’s lawyers to assist the court at the next hearing scheduled for August 25. When the court resumed hearing the petition, Punjab Additional Advocate General Ghulam Sarwar Nihung sought time from the court.
He informed the court that an anti-terrorism court (ATC) had also declared Hassaan an absconder.

A day earlier, the provincial government had informed the LHC that Hassaan Khan Niazi had been handed over to the military for his court martial over his alleged involvement in the May 9 riots.
On Friday, Nihung submitted a report on behalf of the concerned quarters. The report stated that the PTI leader had been remanded in the custody of the army due to his alleged role in the Jinnah House attack.
Earlier, the LHC had ordered authorities to present Hassaan in the court on August 18.
The petitioner’s counsel contended that the Station House Officer (SHO) who had handed over Hassaan to military authorities had violated the law. He had implored the court to summon the SHO and seek an explanation from him.
