Maryam fires broadside at ex-CJP Nisar after audio leaks

Maryam Nawaz, Chief Organiser of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has accused former chief justice Saqib Nisar’s son of collecting money for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) tickets, saying “the son of a thief turned out to be a thief himself”.

Maryam asked Justice (retd) Nisar how much money he had taken in exchange for the Panama case verdict.

The statement comes two days after an audio recording purportedly of Saqib Nisar’s son discussing the distribution of PTI’s election tickets for money surfaced on social media.

In the audio clip, Najam Saqib can allegedly be heard discussing his cut with a ticket-holder, Abuzar Chadar.

Addressing party workers in Lahore’s Model Town on Monday, Maryam said that former prime minister Imran Khan was the only person hindering Pakistan’s progress and accused him of being a “terrorist” who did not want the country to function.

“Whether he wins or loses, he will not let the country run,” she said.

The PML-N chief organiser also held the PTI chief’s “whole gang” responsible for the current economic situation. She accused Imran of being the head of the gang, and claimed that Saqib Nisar and General (retd) Faiz were his gang members.

The PML-N vice president said that when Imran Khan’s sit-in in 2014 failed and Nawaz Sharif’s crime could not be proven, Justice Khosa told the PTI chief to bring the case to him so he could remove Nawaz Sharif from power.

She said that removing Nawaz Sharif caused more harm to Pakistan, and today the same thing is happening again with Imran Khan’s long march and Jail Bharo movement. “Every move has failed, so now a new judicial establishment has come to life,” she added.

Maryam said that Pakistan’s economy is in a bad state and progress has been stalled, and that is why PTI is not in a hurry to hold elections. “The only reason they want elections to happen quickly is because no one else will be able to bring them to power,” she said, referring to current judiciary.

The leader of the PML-N said that Justice Athar Minallah said that, before holding elections, we need to see why the assembly was dissolved. “This is because this mischief-maker himself tore the assembly apart and said that General Bajwa told me to dissolve the assemblies. The goal was that the assemblies would be dissolved and facilitators would be sitting in the Supreme Court to bring them back to power.”

“You can do whatever you want, but Parliament will continue to make laws. You will have to accept the decisions of the Parliament, the Constitution, and the laws of this country. Parliament will enforce its decision as the Constitution and Parliament of this country are supreme,” she added.
