KARACHI:
Sindh Assembly on Friday unanimously approved a resolution lauding the services of Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani. Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) MPA Arif Mustafa Jatoi from the opposition benches moved the resolution.
Before the dissolution of Sindh Assembly, the lawmakers belonging to the treasury and opposition delivered farewell speeches in the house.
As the session started with speaker Agha Siraj Durrani in chair, the members belonging to ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM), Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal and Tehreek e Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) shared their five years thoughts in the assembly. Some opposition members criticized the government policies, while the treasury members including ministers came up with appreciating it.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah while winding up the speeches presented his five years’ performance briefing the house about the government measures to cope with Covid pandemic and floods.
He said the deluge was daunting but the people and government of Sindh overcame the challenge and raised a bumper crop of wheat followed by cotton.
He lauded the services of speaker Agha Siraj Durrani for running the house without the discrimination and criticised the PTI led government for victimising him by putting behind bars.
“The PTI government created chaos directing the NAB and FIA to conduct the raids at almost all government departments due to which the officials stopped working under the fear of arrest,” he said.
Leader of the Opposition Rana Ansar in her speech thanked all the opposition and treasury members for supporting her and criticised the government for its discriminatory policy in development schemes and said, “People living in Sindh are not happy over distribution of financial resources, jobs and development works being carried out in the last five years.”
She added that the 18 Amendment was meant to devolve the resources at grassroots level, but it could not bring tangible results.
“Despite all shortcomings, we are happy that our assembly, parliament and democracy in the country have finished its due term,” she added.
