Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif has demanded the arrest of former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar and called for legal action against him for “violating the Constitution”.
In a brief conversation with journalists in London on Tuesday, Nawaz said that legal action should be taken against Saqib Nisar for “selling electoral tickets” which transgressed the law.
Action should be taken against Saqib Nisar. He has violated the constitution and the law. Other people who break the constitution and the law go directly to jails. He continued that those who violated the Constitution and law went to jail, and similarly, the ex-CJP should also be incarcerated. The former premier added that Nisar committed many atrocities against the country and the people while in office.
He stated that Nisar’s actions against Pakistan were “unforgivable”.
The PML-N leader referred to an interview of former judge Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, who had alleged in a television interview that Nisar was part of a group of judiciary acting against democracy.
Read ‘PTI ticket deal’: NA demands probe into ‘audio leak’ of ex-CJP Nisar’s son
Former CJP Nisar has recently come under fire by the Sharif camp following a leaked audio clip of his son purportedly taking money in exchange for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) tickets.
Party scion Maryam Nawaz on the purported audio leak of Najam Saqib, had said that the “son of a thief turned out to be a thief”.
In the audio leak, which surfaced last week, Najam allegedly could be heard talking to two other people about taking not less than “120” in exchange for a ticket.
Addressing the party workers on May Day at Model Town, Maryam had said, “Saqib Nisar, tell me how much money did you take in exchange for the Panama case?”
Nisar had permanently disqualified Nawaz Sharif as the prime minister for life in the Panama Papers case in 2017.
Earlier, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, while throwing down the gauntlet to Nisar, had also said that he had gone too far in ex-PM Nawaz Sharif’s “enmity”.
The minister had claimed that Nisar made baseless statements about Nawaz and his brother, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, 14 or 15 years ago, which he had said he could refute in the media with the truth. He, however, did not elaborate on the statements any further.
Separately, Asif had said that the nexus of PTI chief Imran and Saqib Nisar had launched a brutal campaign against Nawaz. He said the country was pushed into political and economic instability under a well-thought-out plan.
