New Superhero musical to debut at Disney California Adventure

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Aside from leading agile, muscle-bound superheroes, Nick Fury apparently can also belt out a tune.

The newest version of the fictional founder and leader of the Avengers will sing along with Captain America and other Marvel heroes in a new original musical called “Rogers: The Musical” at the Hyperion Theater in Disney California Adventure Park.

What You Need To Know

  • A new Broadway-style musical about Captain America will debut in June at the Hyperion Theater in Disney California Adventure
  • The musical first appeared in the first episode of Disney+ miniseries “Hawkeye”
  • “Rogers: The Musical” will be a 30-minute, one-act musical
  • The musical will run from Tuesday through Saturday most weeks starting June 30

The Broadway-styled musical first appeared in the first episode of the Disney+ miniseries “Hawkeye.” It tells the origin story of Steve Rogers, a lowly U.S. World War II soldier who transformed into Captain America and became a leading member of the Avengers.

“It’s a classic tale of heroes, time travel, and romance, oh and Nick Fury sings,” wrote Gabriel Gibaldi, a Disney public relations director, on the official Disney Parks Blog Monday.

The musical is the first to appear at the Hyperion Theater since government restrictions shut down theme parks across the state to slow down the spread of the coronavirus.

Before the pandemic, “Frozen – Live at the Hyperion” had played at the theater since 2016.

Disneyland officials said “Rogers: The Musical” at the Hyperion Theater would be a 30-minute, one-act live theater production from Tuesday through Saturday most weeks starting June 30.

Disneyland officials said the musical would be set in New York and feature a cast of singers and dancers as they sing a classic tale of heroes, time travel and romance.

The show music includes “Save the City,” from the Disney+ series “Hawkeye,” and also premiered at the D23 Expo. The other musical numbers are “Star Spangled Man,” from the film “Captain America: The First Avenger,” plus five new original songs.
