Owning expensive bikes becomes ‘threat’ to citizens – Daily Frontline

It has become difficult for citizens to have an expensive motorcycle in the city, which are either stolen or snatched at gunpoint. A slight resistance to snatchers can leave the owner injured or dead.

Police sources sharing the past six months data said that a particular brand of two-wheelers, Suzuki 110 has become a hot favourite for snatchers and lifters in the city.

According to the data, citizens were deprived of 647 of these expensive 110 cc motorcycles worth Rs190.41 million during the last six months.

According to police sources, most motorcycles were snatched or stolen in February this year. According to the data, 108 Suzuki 110 motorcycles were stolen or snatched in November, 82 in December, 105 in January, 148 in February, 140 in March, and 64 in April. Citizens owning expensive motorcycles feel insecure due to the increasing number of snatching incidents in the city.

The citizens have demanded police authorities and government to take action against the motorcycle snatchers, lifters without discrimination.

In the latest incident a new expensive 110cc motorcycle was snatched from a citizen at gun point in Zamanabad, Landhi. Earlier on Monday, armed suspects snatched an expensive motorcycle from a citizen named Muhammad Naveed, who was going for a job interview for a job within the limit of New Town Police Station and shot and injured him when he resisted.
