Pakistan, India border forces exchange sweets

LAHORE:

As a symbol of goodwill and harmony, Pakistani and Indian forces on Saturday exchanged sweets at the Wagah Border on the occasion of Pakistan’s 76th Independence Day.

The goodwill gesture was made by officials from the Punjab Rangers and India’s Border Security Force (BSF).
It is a tradition for Indian and Pakistani soldiers to exchange sweets on days of national importance for the two countries and on the occasion of major festivals every year.

The practice is a confidence-building measure and an attempt to establish peace between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

Despite lingering tensions, border forces from both Pakistan and India continue to partake in this amicable tradition during religious and national festivals.

Sources said sweetness spread beyond the Wagah Border, with similar exchanges taking place at various other border posts.

Moreover, it was revealed that similar exchanges of sweets will take place on the border on August 15 in celebration of India’s Independence Day.
