Following Imran Khan’s arrest on Tuesday outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) followers protested across the country.
Police and protesters fought in Karachi near Nursery. Stones were thrown at police cars, and street lights were destroyed. There are rumours that the cops shot tear gas at the demonstrators.
Police fired tear gas and water cannon to disperse Khan Supporters in Karachi and Lahore, while protesters blocked roads in Islamabad, neighbouring Rawalpindi, and Peshawar.
Imran Khan’s supporters are seen chanting “Release Imran Khan” and “Shut down Pakistan” while demonstrating, PTI said in a tweet.
“Pakistan, it is your time now. It is now or never an opportunity. People must come out to defend their country now,” it added.
On the other hand, the official Islamabad police Twitter account said, referring to a graft case, “Imran Khan has been arrested in the Qadir Trust case.”
Khan and the other defendants are accused of adjusting Rs50 billion, or 190 million pounds at the time that was provided to the government by the British National Crime Agency (NCA), ANI reported.
Additionally, they are charged with receiving illegal benefits in the form of more than 458 canals of land in Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa, for the construction of Al Qadir University, the report added.
