KARACHI:
A young woman has approached the Sindh High Court (SHC) for the arrest of the alleged killer of her father who she had identified through social media 15 years after the brutal murder.
In a petition filed at the SHC, Mahim Amjad argued that Syed Taqi Haider Shah had been declared a proclaimed offender by the sessions judge for Karachi’s South District in 2010, but the law enforcement agencies did not take concrete steps to arrest him and he managed to flee the country.
The data for the arrest of the accused was also not shared with the Interpol.
On Sept 27, 2022, a permanent arrest warrant was issued for the accused after an application had been in the trial court. The subordinate court also ordered to block the passport of the accused.
Mahim had requested the issuance of instructions to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to arrest the accused through Interpol, but the trial court did not issue any orders in this regard.
Moreover, the FIA did not make any serious effort to arrest the accused, who managed to renew his identity card on Nov 7, 2022.

However, due to the petitioner’s efforts, the accused’s passport and identity card were blocked on Nov 24, 2022. Mahim has requested the issuance of instructions to FIA and the police to demand the extradition of the accused from the UAE.
While speaking to the media after filing the petition, Mahim said that everyone knows that the alleged killer of her father has been arrested in the UAE 15 years after the murder – that too when she identified him through social media.
She added that the accused was first arrested in Dubai.
Interpol bailed him after four months because it could not keep him in custody for more than that. “Then I got him arrested from Sharjah,” she said while claiming that her life was in danger as the accused has threatened in a video statement to kill her.
Despite the threat, the Consulate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Sindh Home Department have not taken any action.
Mahim said that she has been in touch with the Pakistani ambassador, but when the UAE authorities returned the documents regarding the suspect’s extradition as incomplete, the Pakistani envoy and consulate did not inform her.
