SpaceX plans to launch its first uncrewed Starship missions to Mars in two years, according to CEO Elon Musk.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Musk stated that the upcoming missions will test the spacecraft’s ability to land intact on the Red Planet.
If successful, SpaceX aims to send its first crewed missions to Mars within four years.
Musk also emphasised that the flight rate would increase rapidly, with the ultimate goal of building a self-sustaining city on Mars within 20 years.
Musk envisions Starship as a versatile, next-generation spacecraft designed to transport both people and cargo to the moon later this decade, with the ultimate goal of reaching Mars.
SpaceX is relying on its Starship spacecraft, which completed a breakthrough test mission earlier this year, to achieve these ambitious targets.
