The grand dame with a gable dating back to 1822 has been meticulously restored, offering a unique dining experience amidst some of South Africa’s renowned contemporary art pieces from the Spier collection.
Chef Phil Carmichael presents a series of five-course feasts every Friday night in April, expertly paired with Spier’s 21 Gable wines made in honour of the farm’s architectural legacy.
The Chef will utilise an open hearth kitchen to serve dishes cooked with fire, smoke, and embers, using the best ingredients from Spier’s gardens and pastures.
Join the long table at The Manor House for a taste of terroir in every bite and a feast for the eyes with the exquisite juxtaposition of old and new.
In Chef Phil’s words, here’s what to expect:
The Perfect Match: ‘Your five courses consisting of delicious canapés served in the drawing room, two starters, a main and a decadent dessert will be deftly paired with our 21 Gables wines.’
From The Open Hearth: ‘Forget foams or fussiness – simplicity can result in the sublime. We use flame, smoke and embers to cook dishes; more than just a technique, fire is a key ingredient.’
Terroir In Every Bite: ‘The dishes I’m serving tell the story of Spier. From meat to vegetables, we use the very best ingredients from the pastures and gardens here. Every part of the animal is utilised; this both reduces waste and results in a broad and exciting spectrum of flavour and texture.’
