Great For Nature and wildlife enthusiasts, couples, and families with children
Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, also called Tadoba National Park, is great for anyone who is even a little interested in wildlife and nature, and looking for a quiet break. It works as a summer destination because it’s the most ideal time of the year to venture out on a tiger safari. The jungle is buzzing with activity and it is unlikely you will not spot the elusive tiger on your safari in the summer.
You will be pleasantly surprised by the enthusiasm and willingness of all the locals to ensure you have the best safari experience. Every guide, naturalist and driver goes out of their way to ensure you fall in love with their beloved jungle.
Roxanne’s Tips To Make The Most Of This Destination
– Book your hotel and safaris in advance because Tadoba can get busy with wildlife enthusiasts thronging here during the summer. Your hotel will make all the safari bookings for you.
– Opt for one of the night safaris. It’s a new experience and you get to go into the jungle from 7 pm to 10 pm in the dark and experience the nocturnal animals. You might get lucky and spot a tiger or even sloth bears, among other animals and birds. It’s so different from the regular morning and evening safaris; it gives you a different perspective driving through the dark under a starlit sky.
– Hire a naturalist to accompany you on your safari. Most hotels will have inhouse naturalists and their insights and knowledge are invaluable and add an extra layer to your overall experience. This is also extremely helpful if you don’t speak Hindi or if you are a foreign tourist; most of the guides and drivers don’t speak English and might not be able to give you all the information during your jungle safari.
Stay
I highly recommend the Waghoba Eco Lodge by Pugdundee Safaris. It’s a beautiful property that focuses on sustainable tourism, it’s well priced while offering luxuriously spacious rooms, and the food is a wonderful mix of local favourites as well as Indian and international staples. It’s also one of the few properties that will cater to specific dietary requirements (vegan, lactose intolerance, Jain, etc).
Getting There
Fly into Nagpur Airport or take a train to Nagpur Station; then, it’s an approximately two-hour drive to the national park.
